I am a self-taught artist who is always open to new exploration. My work is centered around inspiration gathered from meditation experiences in the form of intuitive messages, exercises in self-love, healing past trauma, experiences with nature, colorful visions, sage advice and conversations with spiritual people. I work in oil pastel and colored pencil. It is my hope that those who view my work will be able to connect to or explore something within their emotional landscape.

Monifa’s work is currently being shown at Akwaaba Gallery in Newark, NJ and at the Art-In-The-Atrium in Morristown, NJ. Her work was also shown at the 2019 Newark Arts Festival with Femme Curator Arts. Her original artistic background began with training in classical ballet, contemporary dance and rhythm tap dance. She has performed with the National Tap Dance Orchestra led by Brenda Bufalino, with Barbara Duffy and Company, and at the world famous Cotton Club in Harlem, with the Sophisticated Ladies, choreographed and led by Dormeisha Sumbry-Edwards. Monifa had also been an arts educator with the NYC Department of Education from 2001 to 2018.
